Laurie Chapman, MFT

Laurie has been providing San Diego with therapy and consultation services for the past 15 years. Her client base includes individuals, couples, and families, start-up companies, and non-profit corporations. In her role as a licensed marriage and family therapist, she provides services to individuals and families with a myriad of issues, and has developed specific expertise in the following areas: women’s issues, couples in transition, grief and loss, trauma, military families, performance enhancement, stress-management, and adolescent issues throughout San Diego. Laurie is currently an EMDR certified practitioner and has extensive training in Strategic and Solution-Focused therapeutic interventions.

Laurie graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles with a degree in psychology and a minor in business, and has a Master’s Degree in the Science of Counseling from San Diego State University. She competed as an All-American distance runner in college and was a competitive athlete with the Santa Monica and San Diego Track Clubs until she retired several years ago. In addition, she has 10 years of experience in executive management with San Diego Youth & Community Services, a non-profit corporation. Laurie is also an adjunct faculty member at San Diego State University in the Marriage and Family Therapy Department where she teaches graduate students effective therapy practices.

In her role as an executive manager of a non-profit, Laurie took an active role in the agency’s strategic planning process. She adjusted the agency’s infrastructure to accommodate clinical services and issues, and served as the agency’s HIPAA Privacy Officer where she maintained oversight of the legal and ethical aspects of the organization including the quality and integrity of the agency’s clinical programs. Laurie also received funding for numerous innovative programs for at-risk youth and families that are still functioning today.

Currently, Laurie serves as the Treasurer of the Board of Directors for the Family & Youth Roundtable (a family advocacy organization) and is a member of the Council for the Human Rights of Children. Her professional affiliations include membership in the following organizations: the California Association for Marriage and Family Therapists, the EMDR International Association, and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists.
